ELAB Records Highest LAB Production Since Establishment

Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB) Chairman, Alaa Abd ElFattah, announced that his company achieved its highest production rate of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB), a key ingredient in industrial detergents, since its establishment, with a total of 130,000 tons produced throughout the year.

This was announced during ELAB’s General Assembly meeting, attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi.

Abd ElFattah explained that ELAB covered the local market’s needs while exporting the surplus to obtain hard currency. He explained that the successful project to convert the by-product ‘HAB’ into the higher-value ‘LAB’ product, in addition to other programs and procedures implemented by the company, were among the most important factors contributing to the increase in production capacity.

The Chairman also shed light on the new project to increase the production of Linear Alkyl Benzene through a customized revamp in collaboration with Honeywell UOP, a multi-national company developing and delivering technology to the petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical production, and major manufacturing industries. This project is implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM). It shows the company’s commitment to implementing the second pillar of the Ministry’s strategy: maximizing the benefit from petrochemical projects and creating the greatest economic return and added value.

Furthermore, ELAB obtained the Carbon Footprint Certificate for its Linear Alkyl Benzene product—an internationally accredited recognition of the company’s outstanding environmental performance and its achievement of low carbon emission levels globally within the LAB production industry.

During the meeting, Badawi affirmed that the company sets a notable example for maximizing added value in the petrochemicals sector by providing a local product that is used in the detergent industry to reduce imports and increase exports.
