The parliamentary Energy and Environment Committee supports the government’s plans to extend the natural gas grid to 600,000 new households during fiscal year (FY) 2017/2018, Chairman Talaat El Sewedy told Akhbar El Yom.
El Sewedy urged the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to target an additional 1 million households for linking to the grid during FY 2018/2019.
During a meeting with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, many parliamentary members raised concerns about natural gas delivery to households in their districts, El Sewedy said.
The total number of households attached to the Egypt’s natural gas grid rose to over eight million in 2017. The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) aims to increase this number to nine million households in 2018, the Chairman of EGAS, Osama El Bakly, told Amwal Al Ghad in September.
