Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla took part in the second committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to discuss preparations for hosting the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), according to a Cabinet statement.
Among the attendees were the Ministers of Environment, Finance, Local Development, Electricity, Petroleum, Planning, International Cooperation, Housing, Civil Aviation, and others, some of whom participated via videoconference.
Madbouly reviewed what was agreed upon during the first meeting of the committee, pointing out the importance of addressing climate change issues and environmental protection, as well as the significance of the conference emerging in a way that reflects Egypt’s efforts in prioritizing this issue and its role with the international community.
For his part, El Molla showcased the efforts of the ministry in preparation for the conference. The ministry’s scope of work included supporting the renewable energy transformation plan through providing environmentally friendly means of transportation, expanding the number of natural gas stations, and promoting green transition projects.
Madbouli also underlined the need to speed up the completion of a visual identity project for the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, while increasing the number of electric vehicles inside the city, and finishing the final version of Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy.
The supreme committee’s meetings will be convened at least twice a month to ensure adequate preparation for the global event, which Egypt will host in November, Madbouly added.
