Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad followed up on the industrial drainage problem and reviewed the environmental reform plans for petroleum companies operating in the Gulf of Suez, according to a press release.
This came during the Higher Committee for Environmental Compliance and Reform meeting. El Molla stated that through effective participation, communication and continuous coordination between the two ministries and the committee, East Zeit Petroleum (ZEITCO) and General Petroleum Company (GPC) managed to implement the environmental reform plans. Other companies also have begun submitting effective and sustainable plans to reach compliance with environmental standards and requirements.
Fouad stressed that bilateral efforts set up a roadmap for petroleum companies to implement environmental reform plans and develop solutions to any obstacles that may arise. She emphasized the role of continuous communication between the ministries and setting priorities based on companies’ achievements.
