Egypt’s Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035 Supported by EU

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in addition to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy showcased the plans and efforts towards achieving sustainable energy by 2035 and modernizing the energy sector in Egypt, Under the auspices of the European Union (EU), a press release reported.

This came during a seminar entitled “Roadmap to reach Sustainable Energy Goals by 2035: Energy Transmission and Modernizing Egyptian Energy Sector” which was presented by Osama Mobarez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Ahmed Menhanna, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

Mobarez demonstrated the role of EU in boosting Egyptian oil and gas sector especially with its technical support in implementing the Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy to 2035. He pointed to the Modernization Project launched in 2016 to raise the oil and gas operations efficiency which came in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

In the same Context, Mehanna noted the ministry’s targets to increase renewable energy in the energy mix to 42.7% of by 2030. He displayed the giant projects implemented and the efforts for updating the electricity grid to connect with the neighboring countries and the EU.

For his part, Ahmed Al Beltagy, Head of Energy Sector at the EU, stressed on the support of EU for its international partners in the transition to clean energy.
