Egypt’s Gas Demand to Reach 4.1bcf/d in Summer

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy estimated the amount of oil and gas it will need during summer 2017 at 4.1bcf/d of gas, 23,000 tons/d of mazut, and 3,000 tons/d of diesel, reported Al Borsa.

A source at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) stated that the Ministry of Electricity requested not to increase mazut pumped for electricity stations as it decreases its productivity and increases break downs and maintenance periods.

Furthermore, the source pointed out that the power plants’ consumption will increase from 3bcf/d to 3.2bcf/d of gas in summer due to the rising temperature.

He also informed that the imported amounts of gas will be decreased gradually after adding 600mcf/d of gas from Taurus and Libra fields to production by the end of March 2017.

Gas production rates will also increase to 5.4bcf/d by the end of 2017 after linking 200mcf/d of gas from Zohr field to the national grid by October 2017.
