Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, met with the World Bank’s delegation to Egypt to review the latest updates on a project to connect natural gas to residential dwellings. The project is funded by the World Bank with $500m, the European Union with around $76m, and the French Development Agency by about $78m,  and aims to  connect 2.4m households to the natural gas grid over the course of 4 years, reported Amwal Al Gad.

Nasr agreed with the World Bank to extend the project to 20 governorates, instead of the initial 11 ones, in order to cover areas in upper Egypt. The project will add 1.1m dwellings in Giza, Ismailia, Alexandria, Matrouh, Qalyubia, Menoufia, Dakahlia, Qena, Suhag, Gharbeya and Aswan, according to Al Borsa News.

Nasr added that it is important for the project to be finalized according to the specified time frame in order to make the best use of the funds and for the benefit of citizens.
