Egypt’s House of Representatives’ Energy Committee asked the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity to consider 250kWh consumption tier as limited income households, reported Al Borsa. The Energy and Environment Committee’s Member, Hamada Ghallab, stated that the households that consume 250kWh use high consuming for necessary devices.
Electricity Tariffs for fiscal year 2016/2017 are charged according to 4 consumption tiers starting from 0 to 50 kWh for EGP 0.11 per kWh, from 51 to 100 kWh for WGP 0.19, from 101 to 200 kWh for EGP 0.21, and from 201 to 350 kWh for EGP 0.42.
Egyptian President, Abd El Fattah El Sisi, directed the ministry to not increase electricity tariff and to focus their attention on alleviate the burdens of limited income citizens. He stated that the country should bear the consequences of the EGP devaluation and the gas price increase instead of the citizens. Accordingly, the ministry’s Spokesperson, Ayman Hamza, had said that according to directives from Egyptian President, Abd El Fatah El Sisi, there will be no increase in the selling prices of electricity before the beginning of the next fiscal year that starts on July 1, as reported Egypt Oil&Gas earlier.
