Egypt to Increase Local Component of Wind Farms to 40%

Currently the local component of wind farms is estimated at 30%, with the aim to increase renewal energy manufacturing to 40% in wind farms and 30% in solar power plants, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, stated in his speech at ElectricX Conference, according to Amwal Al Ghad.

The local component in electricity projects, in general, has reached 100% of the tasks of electricity distribution and transportation networks, Shaker added.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Siemens has included establishing a wind farms’ blades factory in Ain Sokhna, with around 34 MW annual capacity and $100 million investments, which will secure 1,000 job vacancies, Shaker pointed out, adding that these efforts come within the national responsibilities of the electricity sector in order to contributed to flourishing the economy.
