Egypt to Establish Nuclear Power Regulator in January

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is planning to finalize establishing the nuclear power industry regulator body by January 2018, a source at the ministry toldĀ Al Mal News.

The nuclear power regulator will have the responsibility of supervising the construction of Al Dabaa nuclear power plant, until it is handed to the nuclear power plants authority.

The ministry has already finalized all the laws required for establishing the nuclear plant, and has completed negotiations with Russia’s Rosatom, which is the company that will execute Al Dabaa nuclear power plant.

The ministry’s source expected that Egypt will have foreign experts in the nuclear regulatory body, yet the management will be Egyptian talents from the ministry of electricity.

Egyptian Parliament approved three laws governing nuclear regulation and usage late November, Ahram Online reported.

The regulation laws, if approved by the president, will establish two authorities to regulate the usage of nuclear power, according to Al Mal.
