Egypt, Sudan Start Operating Joint Electricity Grid

The Egyptian Cabinet announced that the initial operation of the electricity grid connecting Egypt and Sudan started with 220 Kilo volt on April 3, the official Facebook page of Cabinet reported.

According to the statement, the line was completed in April 2019 with a length of 100 kilometers (km) in Egypt and 70 km in Sudan

For the Sudanese part, the Ministry of Energy said that they finalized testing the extension of the grid to Sudan’s northern region on the same day under the efforts to expand power supply, according to Reuters

This implemented phase is the first one for the connectivity operations and aims to provide Sudan with a capacity of 70 megawatts per hour. This will be until the second phase is completed and after some needed devices in the Sudanese stations are installed. Subsequently, the second phase will aim to increase the power to 300 megawatts, the Egyptian cabinet elaborated.
