Egypt has received approximately 560,000 cubic feet (cf) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Jordan over four months through the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) located near Aqaba, reports Al Ahram Gate.

The LNG imports came as a part of the deal with Jordan to supply Egypt with around 140,000 cf per month for 10 months, Jordan’s National Electric Power Company’s General Director for Planning and Production, Amin El Zoghl, stated.

The deal is a part of an Egyptian-Jordanian protocol aiming to benefit both parties, said El Zoghl.

Out of the 48 LNG cargoes that Aqaba’s Sheikh Sabah LNG Port received in 2016, 670 million cubic meters (mcm) of LNG were forwarded on to Egypt, according to the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, has previously noted, that these LNG imports come from global suppliers but they are delivered via the FSRU in Aqaba to cut costs.
