Egypt Halts Sudan’s Electricity Interconnector Project

Egypt Halts Sudan’s Electricity Interconnector Project

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, announced delaying electricity interconnector project with Sudan until an unknown period due to the political circumstances in Sudan.

The ministry completed the project and requested operational trial from the Sudanese side in March, but it received back a reply that there is no electricity minister in Sudan, Shaker told Al Mal News.

The Egyptian ministry planned to export 100 Megawatt (MW) electricity to Sudan starting March 2019 and increase the amount to 300 MW.

The 300-MW capacity link was planned to connect the Egyptian and Sudanese energy grids, and was being delivered by Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubre, Enterprise reported in July.
