Presudent Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Nikos Christodoulides, President of Cyprus, witnessed the signing of an agreement between the two countries to start developing Cypriot natural gas discoveries, using Egyptian infrastructure during EGYPES 2025.
It was signed by Karim Badawi, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus; and Claudio Descalzi, Chief Executive Officer, Eni.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in advancing gas development, infrastructure expansion, and investment in energy security across the East Mediterranean region. It further reinforces Egypt and Cyprus’s commitment to regional collaboration, sustainable resource management, and a resilient energy future.
Meanwhile, a MoU was signed by Karim Badawi and George Papanastasiou, and Clay Neff, President, Chevron Corporation for Exploration and Production Activities for the development of the Aphrodite gas field.
Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy
Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Mahmoud Mustafa Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, have signed an agreement with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, to develop an executive olan for cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy between the two countries.
CCUS Technologies
Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, signed an MoU with Theodoros Skylakakis, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, to foster cooperation in the field of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). The MoU focuses on the exchange of expertise between the two countries in implementing CCUS technologies.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Alaa El Batal, First Undersecretary of the Ministry and Supervisor of Health, Occupational Safety and Environment (HSE), Energy Efficiency, and Climate Affairs, and Alexandra Sdoukou, Greek Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy.
