Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has visited the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, at the invitation of his Cypriot counterpart Giorgos Papanastasiou in order to exchange visions between the two sides.
The two ministers held a meeting attended by delegations from both countries, where they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and expedite the exploitation of natural gas discoveries within Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed international and regional developments in the energy sector. They emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus to establish a reliable energy corridor from the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe for the transportation of natural gas and green energy.
The discussions also focused on accelerating the development of Cyprus’s natural gas reserves by utilizing Egypt’s existing infrastructure. This includes transporting gas from Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone to Egypt for liquefaction and export to global markets.
