EGPC Eyes Improved Decision-Speed via In-House Digital Solutions

As part of efforts to implement the five-year plan to boost production and enhance exploration activities, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) held a forum titled “The Systems We Built,” which showcased several in-house systems developed by employees across sector companies in terms of improving efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, reducing costs, and minimizing errors.

The forum brought together several chairmen, deputies, and general managers from public sector companies operating in exploration and production.

Walid Anwar, Vice Chairman for Corporate Oversight at EGPC, explained that the forum aims to present systems developed by employees in selected companies, categorized according to activity type. These systems are being prepared for transfer to companies that do not yet implement similar automated systems. This would help enhance the quality and accuracy of operational performance through integrated digital databases and systems.

He added that such efforts strengthen integration among departments, support business requirements, maximize the utilization of human capabilities, and reinforce concepts of continuous improvement and effective self-monitoring.

Anwar stressed that improving company performance is a cornerstone for achieving the goals of the ministry’s five-year production increase plan, which requires intensified efforts grounded in science and innovation to address ongoing challenges.

Egypt plans to drill  480 new oil and gas exploration wells over the next five years, with total investments exceeding $5.7 billion, announced Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, in October at the World Energies Summit held in London. He explained that 101 wells are scheduled to be drilled in 2026 alone, distributed across the Western Desert, the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Suez, and the Nile Delta.

The forum was the outcome of field visits and direct dialogue with employees and will be followed by specialized workshops to maximize the benefits of successful models, positively impacting decision-making speed and reducing production costs.

Mohamed Abuelmagd, Vice President of Information Technology at EGPC, stated that field visits and knowledge exchange revealed numerous strengths within companies, particularly the distinguished developers and advanced systems used by major production companies.

The current approach focuses on building integrated and secure work systems based on flexible programs and technologies suited to the nature of the sector’s activities, Abuelmagd noted.

During the forum, Mohamed Hussein, Assistant General Manager of Procurement at Petrobakr Petroleum Company, delivered a presentation on the creation, implementation, and development of a Supply Chain Management (SCM) program. The program includes applied models that have brought a qualitative leap to related departments, including logistics, contracts, finance, tenders, operations, surplus projects, and asset management.

It is considered one of the successful models tested and supported by EGPC, having been implemented at PetroAmir Petroleum Company and currently being rolled out across several other companies, according to the petroleum ministry’s statement.
