The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) expects the country’s natural gas consumption to grow by 12.3%, reaching 7.3 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in fiscal year (FY) 2019/20, Al Borsa Newspaper reported.
The increase will be a result of industrial development plans, higher electricity capacities, natural gas delivery to households and conversion of cars to gas-fueled vehicles.
Egypt will cover the growing demands of its market through linking wells from Zohr field and North Alexandria fields to the production map according to a time plan, a source at EGAS said.
The country’s consumption reached a maximum of 6.5 bcf/d during FY 2018/19, the source noted, adding that the local market’s demands will be boosted to 9 bcf/d of natural gas by FY 2020/21 according to the country’s development plans.
