Bulgaria Turns to Egypt as Potential LNG Supplier

Hristov expressed his country’s desire for Egyptian gas to be one of the important tributaries in meeting part of Bulgaria’s needs for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in light of the distinguished historical relations and keenness to expand cooperation frameworks, especially in the field of supplying LNG and energy in general.

Meanwhile, El-Molla pointed to the importance of energy and the interest of countries in the world to secure their supplies, especially natural gas, and that there are good opportunities to deliver Egyptian gas supplies to southeastern Europe through Bulgaria, which has a strong infrastructure in the field of gas, especially in light of the inauguration of a natural gas pipeline between Bulgaria and Greece.

During the talks, the two ministers agreed to prepare for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop technical, scientific, technological, and commercial cooperation in the field of oil and gas to achieve the common benefit of both countries.

The talks were attended by Alaa El-Batal, Chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Magdy Galal, Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Yasser Salah, GASCO’s Chairman, Yassin Mohamed, EGAS’ Vice President for Operations and Networks, and Denitsa Zlateva, CEO of Bulgarian Bulgargaz Company.
