BAPETCO Carries Out Innovative Procedures for Emissions Reduction, Saving Fuel

The Production and Maintenance teams at Badr Eldin Petroleum Company (BAPETCO) have successfully implemented creative ideas helped in reducing the fuel consumptions by 1,825,000 liters per year and carbon emissions by 11,700 tons of  carbon dioxide equivalent annually at Alam El Shawish fields in the Western Desert.

The teamwork successfully collected the electrical energy sources (electric generators) of a group of six wells having nine diesel generators into only two generators with a capacity of 1 megawatt. This led to reducing diesel consumption from 3,000 liters per day to 2,000 liters per day and reducing the cost of renting generators.

The work team at the main Al-Bahga station also succeeded in collecting the electrical energy sources (electric generators) and saving diesel fuel consumption at a rate of 1,460,000 liters per year, and reducing emissions from flare gas by 6,300 tons of carbon dioxide annually. This project was implemented in two phases:

The first phase included collecting the small-voltage generators into two large generators to reduce diesel consumption from 5,800 liters per day to 2,800 liters per day.

The second phase included the use of flare gas as the main source to operate the electric generators.

In addition, the team at the lightning station succeeded in replacing the heat exchanger that runs on diesel fuel with another heat exchanger that runs on flare gas fuel, which led to saving the rental costs and reducing thermal emissions by 5,400 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
