Badawi Seeks Australian Investments to Boost Egypt’s Mining Sector

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has called for a meeting with Australian companies to identify investment opportunities in Egypt’s mining sector.

This came during the minister’s meeting with Axel Wabenhorst, Ambassador of Australia to Egypt, as they discussed the ways to enhance cooperation in the mining sector and the status of cooperation in the fields of oil and gas.

Additionally, the minister stressed the importance of developing mining exploitation contracts with the aim of encouraging and motivating investors, as an extension of the development that has been made in the field of research and exploration contracts.

Badawi also pointed out that the Sukari gold mine in Egypt is an advanced global model for mining investment that can be replicated.

For his part, Wabenhorst highlighted the importance of increasing cooperation with Egypt, especially in the field of mining, hydrogen, and new energy, expressing Australian mining companies’ desire to invest in Egypt.

He said that the companies are closely following the development and improvement witnessed in this sector.

The meeting also discussed the importance of cooperation with the Australian side in building human capacities in the field of mining to benefit from Australia’s expertise and advanced programs.

Badawi pointed out the importance of building human capacities to keep pace with developments in the mining industry and attract investment, stressing the ministry’s endeavor to provide more advanced programs to develop the skills of Egyptian mining cadres.

Moreover, the meeting touched on the Australian companies’ activities in searching and exploring gas and oil in Egypt through a partnership with Woodside Energy in concession areas in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
