Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has met with Harry Boyd, Managing Director of Climate Strategy and Delivery at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD); Heike Harmgart, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region at the EBRD; and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting explored opportunities to enhance cooperation between the petroleum sector and the EBRD in reducing emissions and decarbonization. This included the EBRD providing technical assistance for developing a low-carbon hydrogen strategy and conducting emission measurement campaigns at various petroleum facilities. Additionally, discussions focused on securing financing for renewable energy projects, energy efficiency initiatives across the sector, and environmentally friendly petrochemical undertakings.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the status of cooperation between the two sides in the field of mining and highlighted the bank’s provision of technical support to conduct a nationwide geophysical survey. This effort aims to identify opportunities for mineral deposits.
Talks also touched on the provision of requirements for value-added projects in the mining sector.
