Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, conducted an inspection tour of the Badr-3 field, affiliated with Badr El Din Petroleum Company (Bapetco) in the Western Desert region.
During the tour, Badawi reviewed the occupational safety and health training program for workers, including their expertise and evacuation procedures. He emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols, particularly the decision to halt operations immediately in the event of a hazard, ensuring that all risks are addressed safely before resuming work to safeguard the well-being of workers.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the employees and partners (Cheiron-Capricorn), highlighting the significant results achieved by Bapetco over its 40-year contribution to the Egyptian economy. He emphasized the vital role of the company and its partners in implementing the six pillars of the Ministry’s strategy, particularly in ensuring the availability of petroleum products and natural gas, which are essential to meeting the daily needs of citizens.
Additionally, the Minister attended a presentation by Ashraf Abdel Gawad, Chairman of the Company, highlighting the key achievements of Bapetco over its 40-year history. Abdel Gawad noted that the Company’s total production during this period reached approximately 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent, with current recoverable reserves estimated at about 44 million barrels of oil and condensates.
He also explained that the Company’s facilities, located across multiple regions, serve as hubs for receiving and processing gas and oil from sister companies operating in the Western Desert.
The Chairman explained that the Company has developed a strategy focused on boosting production by intensifying drilling and exploration programs, leveraging modern technologies to counteract the natural decline of wells. He added that the Company has numerous unconventional opportunities and is working to select the most suitable technologies and advanced techniques to evaluate these reservoirs and maximize production.
Following the presentation, Minister Badawi inspected the control room of the Badr Treatment Plant Facilities, which includes four processing units—one for oil and three for natural gas. Notably, the facility’s crude oil production capacity is 30,000 barrels, while its maximum gas capacity reaches 340 million cubic feet (mcf).
The Minister then reviewed the operations of the EDC-77 drilling rig, managed by the Egyptian Drilling Company (ESC), which is currently drilling a new development well in the Badr-16 area. He engaged in discussions with the drilling team regarding the progress of operations and emphasized the importance of adhering to occupational safety and health standards.
