Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has received a delegation from the Mining and Mineral Resources Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Egypt, where they discussed the role of the committee in supporting the Egyptian mining sector.
The delegation included Muhammad Zaher, CEO of Real Petro-Mining Services; Cherif Barakat, General Manager of Aton Resources and Egypt Country Manager; Mostafa S. El Gabaly, Managing Director at Abo Zaabal Fertilizers & Chemical Industries; Ahmed Wafik, CEO of Saint-Gobain in Egypt; Sylvia Menassa , CEO of the AmCham Egypt; and Dina Nawar, Chief Operating Officer of AmCham.
During the meeting, Badawi explained the importance of the mining sector, and discussed ways to provide an attractive climate for the private sector to enter mining projects and complementary industries based on mineral resources.
He pointed to the possibility of benefiting from the AmCham in transferring successful experiences from other countries. They also discussed how to benefit from the training programs and exploit capabilities in this sector.
The delegation reviewed the AmCham role in encouraging investments in the mining sector in Egypt, not only in gold but also in various minerals, and supporting the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) in transforming the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) into an economic authority.
They added that there is cooperation with large mining companies in order to invest in this promising sector. Moreover, they explained that Egypt has great potential in gold and mineral exploration and prospecting activities.
The delegation elaborated that there are great opportunities for growth and a desire to expand mining activities, and that Egypt is rich in phosphate, which provides opportunities to establish projects based on it to produce phosphate fertilizers.
