Alexandria Petroleum Company and Amreya Petroleum Refining Company (APRC) provide the market with 170,000 tons of butane annually, the Head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Abed Ezz El Regal, told Amwal Al Ghad.

The refineries aim to increase their refinement rate for crude oil to meet domestic demand for butane in the face of increasing consumption, especially in winter.

Linking commercial and industrial units to the natural gas grid will decrease butane consumption over the next few years, Ezz El Regal pointed out. The switch will be accompanied by the replacement of butane storage facilities with natural gas facilities.

Egypt’s production of butane rose to 163,700 tons in August, up 2.5% year-on-year (Y.o.Y.) from August 2016, Egypt Oil & Gas reported.

Consumption of butane rose to 316,900 in August, a 3.2% Y.o.Y. increase from the 307,100 tons consumed in August 2016, according to statistics released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
