Petroleum Sector Celebrates Half a Century of Success for Abu Madi Field in the Nile Delta

Under the patronage of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, the workers at the Abu Madi site in the Nile Delta celebrated the golden jubilee marking 50 years of oil and gas contribution to the region.

Khaled Mowafi, Chairman and Managing Director of Belayim  Petroleum Company (PETROBEL), expressed his happiness to be present at this special event, celebrating the golden jubilee of the establishment of the Abu Madi station, which is considered one of the leading stations for natural gas production and processing in Egypt.

Mowafi emphasized the importance of the historically extended successful partnership between the petroleum sector and IEOC, as the golden jubilee celebration confirms the depth of this strategic relationship, which has contributed to achieving significant accomplishments in the natural gas sector over fifty years, starting with the discovery of the Abu Madi field. This discovery followed an intensive exploration activity that lasted for several years and resulted in the discovery of natural gas in the first exploratory well in Abu Madi, which was the starting point for a long journey of success and achievement.

For his part, Francesco Gaspari, President of IEOC, ENI’s subsidiary in Egypt, expressed his great pleasure at being present in the Nile Delta fields, and that this celebration marking 50 years since the first gas production from the Abu Madi fields confirms the depth of the successful partnership with Petrobel and what we have achieved today in terms of strategic accomplishments is a success for everyone. The depth of the partnership, which has extended for years in the Sinai Abu Rudeis fields and was followed by the Abu Madi fields, extends to the fruitful success in the Zohr field.”

Meanwhile, Ihab Ragai, First Undersecretary for Production at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), expressed his great pleasure at being present in one of the oldest gas fields in Egypt, the Nile Delta fields. The continued production from these fields for five decades is evidence of the success of the strategic plans set between Petrobel and Eni to maximize production plans.
