Uganda and Tanzania have awarded a contract for designing a crude oil pipeline running through both east African countries to US based firm Gulf Interstate Engineering.

Kenya and Uganda are in talks to build separate crude pipeline in order to facilitate Uganda's oil export to Kenya's coastline, as transport cost is expected to increase over preliminary negotiated Uganda-Tanzania route.
