WASCO Targets Higher Gas Output Through New Wells

El Wastani Petroleum Company’s (WASCO) plans to boost gas output from existing fields by maximizing well productivity and reassessing formations and reservoirs and accelerating drilling and development activities based on updated geological and geophysical studies, Sally Salah El-Din, WASCO’s Chairwoman and Managing Director, said.

Salah El-Din’s statement came during the field visit by Sayed Selim, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS),  to WASCO’s operations, where he reviewed current production rates, drilling programs, exploration activities and field development plans, according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

The visit came under directives from Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to strengthen field-level monitoring of production and operational activities.

Officials at Wasco, a joint venture (JV)  between the UAE-based Dana Gas and EGAS, also presented  the results of recent drilling campaigns and potential opportunities across its concession areas, with a focus on  swiftly bringing new discoveries into production, converting reserves into output, and maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and processing facilities.

Selim called for closer coordination among the parties involved and faster implementation of production, drilling and exploration programs, while addressing operational challenges directly from the field. He said the measures would support Egypt’s efforts to increase natural gas production and strengthen domestic supplies.

In December, WASCO was reported to have four natural gas wells drilled in the Nile Delta as part of an 11-well development program. The new wells are aimed at boosting national output.
