Following Ireland’s first offshore wind auction announced in May 2023, a partnership was formed between the Ireland renewable-focused integrated utility EnergiaGroup and Offshore wind company Vårgrønn –a joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and HitecVision—aiming to deliver potential capacity of up to 1.8 GW of Ireland’s offshore wind projects by 2030.

The partnership will initially focus on the development of two sites, located in the Northern Celtic Sea and the Southern Irish Sea respectively, with a capacity of up to 900 MW each.

“This agreement allows us to further consolidate Plenitude’s presence in a strategic sector as the wind offshore, thanks to new promising joint projects off the Irish coast”, said Stefano Goberti, CEO of Plenitude according to a press release issued by Eni company on August 1, 2023.

The venture comes within Ireland’s Climate Action plan 2030, which aims to provide 80% of electricity from renewables and to have 5 GW installed wind capacity, and a further 2 GW of floating wind capacity under development by 2030.
