Nigeria Boosts Power Generation Capacity

Nigeria’s Transnational Corporation (Transcorp) announced the commissioning of a 115 MW gas-fired turbine at its Ughelli power plant in Delta state, committing to its former promise to generate 25% of Nigeria‘s total power capacity before the end of 2018.

This brings the total operating capacity of the plant to 620 MW, Ecofin Agency reported.

“We are aiming to meet 815 MW by end of the year [at Ughelli] and ultimately aiming to generate 25% of the country’s power generation output,” Transcorp Chairman, Tony Elumelu commented.

According to Natural Gas World, Nigeria’s Power Minister, Babatunde Fashola, noted that the stakeholders in the gas sector should be commended for efforts to improve the country’s generation capacity.
