Trump: Taiwan to Buy Up to $80 Bn in LNG from Proposed Alaska Project

US President Donald Trump said that Taiwan’s commitment to purchase 30% of the output from a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline project in Alaska over the next 20 years would be worth between $70 billion and $80 billion.

The proposed Alaska LNG project aims to transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope through an approximately 807-mile (1,300-kilometer) pipeline to an LNG export terminal in Nikiski, with a planned export capacity of up to 20 million metric tons per year, according to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The project aims to expand US LNG exports, particularly to Asian markets.

Taiwan’s state-owned CPC Corporation signed a letter of intent in March 2025 to purchase LNG and explore investment opportunities in the project, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.
