Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, alongside Mohamed El-Zamlout, Governor of New Valley, inaugurated the main gas station of TAQA Gas in El-Kharga city.
The station will supply the city with gas through a permanent pressure reduction station. Medium- and low-pressure pipelines, spanning 270,000 meters, have been laid to supply houses with natural gas.
The station also includes a vehicle refuelling station and a centre for converting vehicles to use natural gas.
The main station’s capacity is 2,500 standard cubic meters per hour (scm/hr), expandable to 5,000 scm/hr.
In the first phase, 5,750 residences have been connected to the station, with a target of 8,300 in the second phase. The number of vehicles converted to natural gas has reached 409.
Badawi emphasized the project’s success as an integrated effort between the ministry, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), New Valley Governorate, and the private sector represented by TAQA Gas, a natural gas distribution company owned by TAQA Arabia.
He stressed the importance of providing natural gas to the governorate’s residents and its economic sectors, highlighting the significance of training local employees while adhering to occupational health and safety measures.
