TAG Oil Reports Positive Reservoir Logs at Egypt’s T-200 Well

TAG Oil, the Canadian oil and gas exploration company, has completed drilling its T-200 exploration well at the Badr Oil Field (BED-1) in Egypt’s Western Desert, reaching a total depth of 4,160 meters, according to a company press release issued on October 12.

Preliminary interpretations of drilling data, mud logs, and wireline logs indicated the presence of oil in the Abu Roash “F” (ARF) reservoir, with encouraging porosity, hydrocarbon shows, and evidence of natural fractures, the company said.

The ARF interval, encountered between 4,102 and 4,160 meters, comprises 58 meters of limestone with good oil shows, while preliminary log interpretation indicated 14 meters of net oil pay, with average porosity of 8%, reaching up to 10%.

TAG Oil also reported favorable permeability characteristics indicative of natural fractures in the interval.

The company announced plans to proceed with completion and testing operations, with initial production test results expected later in October.

Abby Badwi, Executive Chairman and CEO of TAG Oil, said the successful drilling and on-budget operations marked an important milestone for the company’s BED-1 development program.

Badwi added that preliminary drilling and logging data provided encouraging evidence of an oil-bearing reservoir, while further testing would help determine the well’s production potential.

TAG Oil said it would report the results following completion and testing of the well.

TAG Oil is developing  the unconventional heavy oil Abu Roash “F” formation at Egypt’s BED-1 field using enhanced oil recovery techniques, horizontal drilling, and hydraulic fracturing. The company also plans to evaluate the Southeast Ras Qattara concession, where it intends to drill a vertical well in 2027, subject to revised concession terms.

On October 4, TAG Oil reported that its T-200 well had reached the Abu Roash “F” reservoir at 4,102 meters, with drilling costs within budget.
