Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, chaired on Thursday the 23rd meeting of the Supreme Council of Energy to discuss providing the necessary infrastructure and energy for a number of energy-intensive industrial activities to support national and investment projects.
The Council reviewed requests from ministries, authorities, and companies to secure electricity and natural gas for some projects, including 14 new industrial projects and existing facilities which are expanding their capacities.
In this respect, the Council approved projects to be supplied with necessary energy, including new solar glass factories, an industrial complex for producing chemically derived sodium sulfate, an industrial complex to extract potassium chloride and bromine from seawater, the relocation and operation of an ammonia plant, and the addition of new production lines to existing factories.
Minister Esmat highlighted that these decisions align with Egypt’s national energy strategy, which seeks to balance energy production and consumption with economic and social development needs to support the industry, transfer technology, and localize modern industries.
Egypt aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the national mix to 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040, while maximizing the economic returns from electricity and natural gas resources, Esmat noted.
The meeting was attended by several ministers, including ministers of Industry and Transport, Planning, Economic Development, International Cooperation and Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
