A new agreement between PETRONAS and Microsoft to use renewable energy and collaborate to co-innovate digital solutions to support PETRONAS’ efforts to decarbonize the company has strengthened their strategic partnership today.
Petronas’ subsidiary Amplus Solar has entered into a long-term agreement with Microsoft for a 100MW project being developed by Amplus Solar in Rajasthan, India.
A key goal of the co-innovation effort is to create an intelligent platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to support PETRONAS’s decarbonization efforts while establishing a unified sustainability data hub to track, report, and reduce emissions.
PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology, Bacho Pilong said, “Our partnership with Microsoft, one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy in the world today, is a testament to our innovation-driven projects and dedicated focus on enabling corporations to meet their sustainability goals.”
As part of its holistic approach to sustainability, Petronas aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. PETRONAS is taking steps to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions under Scope 1 and Scope 2.
By 2025, Microsoft will have 100 percent renewable energy supplied to all its facilities, including data centers, buildings, and campuses, as part of its commitment to become carbon negative by 2030.
