Shell announced that it has won the award for the highly commended project within the Best Community Care Programme Award, which is one of the HSE Excellence Awards at EGYPS 2022.
Shell received this award for its pioneer project which focused on developing community schools in Marsa Matruh in cooperation with the World Food Program (WFP). The company elaborated that its project benefited 6,000 people and more than 1,100 students.
Shell’s project includes the development of 16 community schools in Marsa Matruh to limit education dropouts, confront malnutrition, and give families a monthly food supply. Also, the company supported women in starting their own businesses in addition to providing clean and renewable energy for that region.
On this occasion, Shell Egypt Chairman Khaled Kacem commented “Our contribution in the fifth edition of EGYPS 2022 this year is very special as we celebrate the 110th anniversary of our entrance into the Egyptian market. Throughout these years, we worked hard to achieve Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional energy hub.”
“Winning this award reflects the company’s strategy in supporting and developing the communities in which we are working not just through exchanging expertise, creating job opportunities, and pumping investments, but also through social investment programs that identify the community needs and work to meet them. Our cooperation with WFP to develop the community schools in Marsa Matruh is a good example of Shell’s sustainable working model at all levels,” Kacem added.
