Shell announced its intention to shut down a crucial Gulf of Mexico crude oil pipeline that transports oil to refineries in Louisiana for two weeks in September, Reuter reported.
According to a statement from Shell, the Odyssey and Delta crude pipelines will be shut down in early to mid-September for scheduled maintenance.
Heavy Louisiana is transported using pipelines. Switching to other pipelines and using sweet crude from offshore oilfields is not an option, Shell continued.
According to the corporate website, the Odyssey pipeline in the eastern Gulf of Mexico has a capacity of 220,000 barrels per day and is linked to the Delta pipeline with supplies into terminals in Louisiana and to Shell’s Norco refinery.
