Shell Egypt Signs Tripartite Cooperation MoU with EGAS, Schlumberger

Shell Egypt announced the signing of a tripartite cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and leading energy technologies provider Schlumberger with the goal of developing cooperation in the field of decarbonization, specifically hydrogen and low-carbon energy solutions.

The MoU was signed by Shell Egypt’s Country Chairman and Managing Director Khaled Kacem, EGAS Chairman Magdy Galal, and Schlumberger’s Managing Director for Egypt, Sudan and the East Mediterranean Sherif Bayoumy. The signing took place during their participation in the activities of the fifth edition of the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2022), which was held at the Egypt International Convention and Exhibition Center (EIEC), from February 14 to February 16, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

This comes within the framework of Shell Egypt and Schlumberger’s strategy to support reliance on clean and renewable energy and aid Egypt’s efforts to transform into a regional energy hub, in line with the strategies of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and contribute to achieving Egypt’s 2030 strategy.

“We are pleased with this cooperation with major companies operating in the oil and natural gas field to explore opportunities for decarbonization in this sector. Under the MoU, participants will focus on studying opportunities for carbon capture, use and storage, and low carbon energy solutions such as hydrogen and ammonia. Accordingly, we are ready to share our knowledge and experience in this field with our partners,” Kacem noted.

“Going towards clean and renewable energy is one of the company’s priorities, as we are honored to cooperate with the leading companies in the sector and provide all support to move forward in this project and develop it by providing expertise and the latest technologies,” Bayoumy said. “Through the Schlumberger Energy Transition Unit, we are also pleased to work as a team with EGAS and Shell Egypt to move together towards clean and renewable energies and unite efforts to make Egypt the regional energy hub.”

According to the MoU, EGAS will focus on developing regulatory frameworks to support decarbonization opportunities as well as leveraging the services of Schlumberger to support this effort with its industry-leading technologies, domain expertise, project management, and digital enablement.
