Egypt saved around 4.6 billion tons of equivalent fuel during 2018 due to the usage of renewable energy sources in power generation, an official source at the Ministry of Electricity told Al Mal News.
The country also decreased CO2 emissions by around 8.4 million tons last year, the source noted.
Egypt’s total production of alternative fuels increased to reach 4,100 megawatts (MW), which is divided into 2,830 MW of hydro-electric power of the high dam and other stations, 1,000 MW from wind farms including Zafrana and Gabal El Zeit, and 320 MW from solar power plants.
The country’s total sold renewable energy reached 15.6 billion kilowatts per hour (kWh), the source stated.
