In demonstrating its commitment to clean energy and energy transition, QatarEnergy has announced the launch of an updated Sustainability Strategy.

The company added that its new strategy builds on the achievements of its ‘2019 Sustainability Strategy’ and will focus on three key areas: climate change and environmental action, responsible operations, and social and economic development.

Also within the new strategy, several targets have been revised to take steps forward in climate action.

QatarEnergy’s updated Sustainability Strategy comprises multiple initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including flagship projects which will further reduce the carbon intensity of Qatar’s LNG facilities by 35%, and of its upstream facilities by at least 25% compared to previous targets of 25% and 15%, respectively.

Commenting on the updated strategy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said “In QatarEnergy, we believe we have a significant role to play to mitigate climate change. This will be achieved by implementing our Sustainability Strategy, through applying effective measures to curb emissions, producing cleaner LNG using the latest proven emissions reduction technologies, expanding renewables capacity, and compensating for residual emissions through CCS and Nature-Based Solutions, where appropriate.”
