Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC) has completed the SCADA system for automated monitoring, control, and early detection of pipeline leaks. The system protects pipelines from tampering and theft, said Haggag Rabie, the company’s chairman. The project is one in a package of projects recently undertaken by the company to replace, renew, and increase the efficiency of petroleum product pipelines nationwide. A key objective of these projects was to secure the necessary fuel supplies for electricity plants as the primary consumers. The total cost of these projects amounted to EGP 3.3 billion.
Rabie explained the status of ongoing projects aimed at maximizing Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub. This includes the Sokhna crude and petroleum products storage station project and the pipeline project to transport petroleum products from the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) in Alexandria to the Hamra petroleum port in El Alamein.
He made these statements during the general assembly meeting, which was attended by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral resources, and other ministers, to review the company’s results in fiscal year (FY) 2024/25.
Badawi stated that the Ministry has a clear vision for developing and maximizing the benefit from PPC, considering it one of the established strongholds in the Egyptian petroleum industry. He emphasized its role in managing and operating the networks for transporting and distributing petroleum supplies and products across Egypt.
Additionally, Badawi highlighted the company’s vital role in supporting Egypt’s position as a regional hub for energy trade. He pointed out its capabilities in transporting and storing crude oil from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. He also praised the efforts of the company’s employees across all its sites for their work on pipeline network expansion projects that are crucial for securing the flow and pumping fuel supplies to citizens and industrial sectors.
PPC is a public company with a massive pipeline network spanning across Egypt. The company has the exclusive concession of transporting crude oil and its products between production fields, refineries and distributors.
