PETRONAS, PERTAMINA, PTT Strengthen Methane Emissions Collaboration

At the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Roundtable 2022, PETRONAS and other key energy players are stepping up collaboration on methane emissions management in the region, leveraging collective capabilities, global best practices, and actionable insights to help the region achieve its shared goal of a lower-carbon future.

PETRONAS sponsored the second virtual Roundtable in the series on May 19, 2022, with support from Thailand’s PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) and Indonesia’s PERTAMINA. The program is part of a larger push by energy businesses to promote awareness, elevate debate, and champion the region’s climate change agenda, notably on effective methane emissions control.

Participants included representatives from PETRONAS, PTT, PERTAMINA, and other major ASEAN oil and gas companies, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the World Bank, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Environment Defense Fund (EDF).

PETRONAS President and Group CEO Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik said in his welcome address that ensuring the sustainability of ASEAN’s energy system requires a responsible and equitable transition strategy.

The ASEAN energy businesses at the Roundtable are utilising their strong presence and network to support capability building and technical information sharing in order to enhance their processes and be honest about their performance reporting, all while contributing to a more sustainable future.

Over the following five years, a series of roundtables will be held bi-annually, hosted and championed by ASEAN’s energy actors.
