The Second Egyptian Petroleum Sector Energy Efficiency Conference (EPEEC 2019) kicked off on Monday, April 22, with the presence of Minister of Petroleum H.E. Eng. Tarek El Molla at the Sky Executive Resort in New Cairo, under the theme “from Success to Sustainability”.
The two-day event gathers industry leaders, energy and technology experts, alongside representatives of financing institutions and multinational corporations.
In his opening remarks, El Molla pointed out the importance of the Conference and its role in achieving the goals of the ministry’s Modernization Project.
“We aim to build strong and long-term relationships in the field of energy efficiency through EPEEC, where national oil companies (NOCs) and international oil companies (IOCs) can meet with financing institutions to cooperate in achieving our sustainability goals,” the minister stated.
Recognizing corporate efforts to achieve energy efficiency, El Molla handed Energy Efficiency Awards to three companies, namely, Misr Fertilizer Production Company (MOPCO), Alexandria National Refine and Petrochemical Company (ANRPC), and the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO).
After the opening ceremony, El Molla, alongside Eng. Abed Ezz El-Regal, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), visited EPEEC`s exhibition hall, officially opening the exhibition to the public.
The Conference’s agenda proceeded with a presentation by Maha F. Attia, General Manager of the petroleum ministry’s Technical Office, on the achievements of the oil and gas sector’s Modernization Project.
“Energy efficiency is a main program of the Modernization Project. Many companies have executed units to save energy and reach this goal,” said Attia.
Mahmoud Maher, from the ministry’s Energy Efficiency and Climate Division, subsequently informed the audience about Egypt’s energy efficiency objectives.
The first day of the event was concluded with two sessions. The first session discussed financing energy efficiency projects, while the second focused on energy efficiency optimization and integration.
The second and last day of EPEEC will see discussions on the sector’s success stories, energy efficiency technologies, energy efficiency framework and policies, as well as energy services companies and institutes.
Egypt Oil & Gas is the official media partner of EPEEC 2019. The event is organized by the Ministry of Petroleum in cooperation with Engineering for Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) and Petrojet.
