Petroleum Minister Follows Up on Rig Operation at Khalda Fields

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, accompanied by leaders of the petroleum sector, has visited the onshore oil rig EDC 76 of the Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC), which is currently drilling a new development oil well in one of the Khalda Petroleum Company’s operating areas in the Western Desert as part of its program to increase production.

This came as part of his inspection tour to oil and gas production sites in the Western Desert to closely follow up on the progress of work at the petroleum sites and efforts exerted to raise the operation efficiency and increase production rates.

During his tour, the minister received a detailed explanation from the team working inside the control room of the drilling rig about the workflow and the mechanism of the drilling rig, which utilizes the latest drilling techniques. The rig is currently drilling the Never-West 16 well, with targeted production rates expected to reach 2,300 barrels per day (b/d) of oil.

Badawi emphasized the importance of teamwork and praised the integrity with which the team performs their duties. He stressed the necessity of continuously adhering to safety rules and modernizing the system to ensure the safety of the workers.
