Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny held a joint meeting to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between their affiliated bodies, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of priority projects, most notably the delivery of natural gas to social housing and new cities, in addition to coordinating efforts to meet the needs of urban projects for petroleum products.
The meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), in the presence of a number of officials from the two ministries.
The two ministers stressed the importance of ongoing integrated work and continuous coordination between the two sides to maximize the benefit from available resources and capabilities, which contributes to promoting projects that achieve a direct return on citizens, especially projects to deliver natural gas to social housing and new cities.
They indicated that the past period witnessed fruitful meetings and positive coordination, which will be built upon to enhance joint cooperation.
The meeting discussed cooperation and integration in projects to extend natural gas infrastructure networks in the West New Alamein City, as well as social housing projects in the Capital Gardens City, which will serve approximately 30,000 new housing units in the city, as part of the Ministry of Petroleum’s efforts to expand the scope of natural gas delivery, in coordination between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the New Urban Communities Authority.
The meeting also addressed the plan to provide bitumen (asphalt) during the coming period, through the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and its affiliated companies producing bitumen, to meet the needs of the Ministry of Housing projects for this basic material for roads paving.
It was agreed to hold working meetings and a field visit for officials from both sides in the coming days to follow up on the implementation of joint work between the two sides on the ground.
