Petrobras Begins Operation of its Natural Gas Processing Unit at Boaventura Energy Complex

Petrobras has commenced operations in its Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), located at Boaventura Energy Complex known as the Itaboraí Industrial Complex.

The UPGN is currently operating with its first module, which has capacity to process 10.5 million cubic meter per day (mcm/d) of gas, said Petrobras on Monday.

The company added that the second module is expected to start operating by the end of this year, bringing the unit’s total capacity to 21 mcm/d of gas.

the UGPN plays a pivotal role to Petrobras as it is part of the Route 3 Integrated Project (PIR3) aimed to increase the supply of natural gas to the Brazilian market, with economic attractiveness to the company.

Notably, PIR3 is part of the Santos Basin Integrated Gas Flow System, responsible for the flow of pre-salt fields such as Tupi, Buzios, and Sapinhoa, among others.

Regardless to the connection point, the gas from the production fields can be piped to the various processing units, including the new UPGN at the Boaventura Energy complex.

Herein, the natural gas produced at the UPHN is part of the total volume offered by the company.
