The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ First Undersecretary for Energy Efficiency and Climate & Safety Alaa El Batal participated in activities of the Mediterranean Offshore Conference (MOC 2024) through a panel session titled ‘Innovations in the Energy Sector Driving Safety and Sustainable Growth’.
The panelists included El Batal; Alessandro Puliti, CEO of Saipem; and Tarek Shabaka, CEO of Mideast Communication Systems (MCS).
During the session, El Batal stated that the petroleum sector pays great attention to the areas of occupational safety and health, as it has become a thought and a culture and is not limited to clothing only. El Batal noted that providing a safe work environment contributes positively to increasing production rates.
El Batal explained that carbon emission reduction projects have become important to everyone that great efforts are being made in this regard, and that the petroleum sector seeks to achieve Egypt’s strategy in these projects.
Additionally, El Batal stated that an energy efficiency center is being established in Alexandria to align with this strategy and to have trained workers. There is cooperation with our partners and stakeholders in all projects to implement these principles and achieve success.
Meanwhile, Puliti explained that Saipem’s experience as an executive of oil and natural gas projects demonstrates that technical development and continuous modernization are efforts that the oil industry believes in the importance of applying and exploiting every new development. Therefore, technical innovations ensure the sustainability and development of the industry, achieving the goals of increasing production, achieving occupational health and safety requirements, protecting the environment, reducing emissions, and removing carbon.
Additionally, Shabaka stated that there is a close relationship between the development of the petroleum industry, technical development, and increasing awareness of the optimal use of these technologies, especially in the areas of achieving and applying safety and health requirements that achieve an economic dimension and secure the operations of the industry, which sees artificial intelligence as an important tributary and that its applications provide important support for its efforts.
