No Price Hikes with Fuel Smart Cards

A press release to Egypt Oil&Gas stated that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed that there will not be any fuel price hikes or volume capping with the trail run of the second phase of of fuel smart cards that is be used filling stations.

Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation’s (EGPC) Vice President, Khaled Othman, state that every citizens will have the right to obtain benzene without conditions whether they have a smart card or not as the country aims to supervise the subsided petroleum derivatives to ensure it reached those most in need, reported Al Mal News. Furthermore, citizens who do not have smart cards will be able to purchase fuel by using the filling station’s card.

Egypt’s fuel smart card program aims to establish a database of actual consumption of petroleum products that are distributed according to product type, geographical location, and type of consumer. Additionally, the use of smart distribution mechanisms will allow for more accurate market regulation and control of petroleum distribution.

This comes as the Egyptian government will apply the third phase of distributing the fuel smart cards system after ensuring that all consumers received their cards. This phase of the project mandates the use of smart cards in order to obtain vehicle fuel, informed Daily News Egypt.
