Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla participated in the fourth edition of the roundtable on the green hydrogen industry in Egypt chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in New Alamein City.
During the roundtable, El Molla stated that Egypt has taken important and remarkable steps to expand renewable and clean energy sources, and in this regard, green hydrogen has become one of the most promising fields for Egypt to achieve its goals towards sustainability.
He elaborated that the establishment of green hydrogen facilities in Egypt goes beyond local uses to serve export purposes locally and globally. Additionally, Egypt’s direction is to expand hydrogen production is in line with the government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, achieving carbon neutrality targets, and confronting the effects of climate change.
El Molla said that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) supports the establishment of an economy based on energy resources with low carbon emissions, and that the ministry is keen to play an important role in the process of producing and exporting hydrogen.
In this regard, the MoPMR is a key partner with a number of other ministries in formulating the National Hydrogen Strategy, which is in its final stages of preparation and is scheduled to be officially announced soon.
The Ministry is also involved in the process of approving incentives for green hydrogen projects.
