MoPMR Reveals Nine Years of Refining, Petrochemicals Achievements

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) revealed the past nine years’ results and achievements despite industry challenges over the last decade.

These results are supporting the economy and the sustainability of work in the petroleum and mining industries.

In the field of refining, eight new projects have been launched to increase the quantities of diesel, butane gas, and gasoline and reduce imports.

The most important projects inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, included the high-octane gasoline at the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC), The Egyptian Refining Company (ERC) in the Mostorod area in Greater Cairo, and the new gasoline production complex in Assiut.

When it comes to the petrochemical industry, the value-added industry, with investments amounting to $4 billion. During the year 2016, El Sisi inaugurated expansion projects of Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) in Damietta and the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) in Alexandria.

New projects are being implemented, the most important of which are wooden panels with their economic and environmental value, methanol derivatives, and bio-ethylene. This is in addition to taking the necessary measures to start a number of important petrochemical projects in the new city of El Alamein and the economic zone in the Suez Canal axis, such as the soda ash and silicon projects.
