The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) has launched a scientific awareness campaign for all companies on the safe dealing with chemicals, within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to develop a safety culture among all workers.
The campaign focused on identifying chemical hazards according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and the methods for controlling them, thereby enhancing the ability to manage the physical risks associated with these chemicals.
The campaign’s educational materials included an illustrated booklet outlining each hazard and the necessary protective measures for handling chemical substances. Additionally, a banner displaying the nine visual symbols for chemical hazards was distributed, along with practical training for workers on how to use them. A presentation was also shared, providing detailed information about potential hazards for workers.
Gamal Fathy, Advisor to the Minister for Occupational Safety and Health, has inaugurated the campaign from the sites of Sidi Kerir Petrochemical Company (SIDPEC) in attendance of its Chairman, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Egyptian Petrochemicals Company (EPC) in the presence of its Chairman, Ahmed Mowakea.
It is worth noting that the chemical safety campaign, which will be applied at all petroleum sector companies during the period from (September 10-12, 2024) aims to develop the safety system and includes the implementation of seven main pillars approved by the ministry.
